Yamagata city is the most populous city within the Yamagata prefecture. I really love this region, as along the bus transit from Sendai, surrounding me are beautiful mountains and landscape of fields and rivers. The gorgeous outline of mountains suggested the reason why the place is named as Yamagata - the formation of mountains.

Travelling from Sendai to Yamagata takes only 1 hour by bus. Same travelling time with train but cheaper.

The bus ticket shop is located at the building at the back, where you could buy Zao bus ticket as well.

The must pass-through central mall (霞城セントラル) towards the Yamagata castle. There's several cute and inspirational designed benches along the lobby.

It takes me 20mins walking from the station to the Castle entrance.

The castle is currently under renovation and enlargement projects.

There's a elevated viewing deck overlooking at the main entrance. Unfortunately, the castle is closed during winter times.

One of the infamous part of Yamagata Castle is the eastern gate.
In front of the gate is the statue of former castle owner 最上義光

The stone wall here on the right of the gate is existing remains of the wall.
| It is understandable why the castle is closed during winter times, as The existing remains are now all hidden under the snow...
